Friday Blog Post 3/1:
I began my portrait of Jael this week. I first started the with background, I chose green as a good complimentary color and added hearts to show Jael’s character because he’s very caring and sweet. I began using different prisma colors to add value to his face. I enjoy adding abstract colors to the face to make it look more interesting. I had trouble with the eyes and worked on positioning them for a while but ultimately I achieved the correct placement. The portrait doesn’t look like Jael yet but I just need to keep working on it.

Friday Blog Post:
I began my portrait of heather by first outlining her form on canvas. I slowly built up the different shades in her skin by layering colors. I’m having trouble with the left side of her face and getting it at the correct angle. Which is something I hope to correct in the upcoming week. I’m happy with the shape of Heather’s nose and I’m looking forward to adding more value and contrast on her face.

Everday Object Final Artwork
Overall I am pleased with the out come of my everyday object painting. I learned that blending values using acrylic paint is difficult because it dries so quickly. Advantages that I enjoyed when using acrylic was the fact that I could paint over colors, which is how I achieved the clean edges on the black and white tiles. Painting the bugs proved to be a challenge at first to do the fact I was unsure where to place them, and the overall perspective of the cup. The end result could have had more bugs crawling out of the cup but I’m proud of all my butterflies.

Philosophy of Art
I wish to communicate my emotions, ideals, and morals to my viewers. When someone looks at my artwork I hope to communicate more than just a beautiful image, I hope to aspire the on-looker to understand my perspective.
In order to be a great artist I want others to view me as original and self expressive. I believe it’s important for me and my fellow artists to respect each other and each other’s artwork. No ones artwork, skill level, or creativity is the same; we should imbrace our differences.
Being outside and experiencing all the beautiful colors of the trees, the sky, and the leaves I’m inspired to capture the moment. Drawing the outlines of shapes and then filling them in with marker or colored pencil helps to nourish my artistic expression. Challenges my artistic expression faces would include complete originality; not drawing solely from one picture source.
I believe incorporating meaning, emotion, and symbolism in to an artwork is a key. Without these elements artwork would be lacking depth and individuality- the principles that make art great. Each artwork I create has the capability to represent me and show my emotions through color and marks.
